My New Writing Project

Friday, November 7th, 2008

So…  I am making every effort to break into the writing world. I need your help, though, dear readers.  I would like to stretch myself as a writer, which means writing on topics of many varieties.

It would be helpful for me if my readers would list for me five topics that he or she enjoys reading about or is interested in or passionate about and I will write on each topic in upcoming blog posts.

Also… If you have a blog and would like someone to guest post for you in the future, I would love to do this.  The only thing I ask is this:  you tell me the topic you’d like me to write about – it could be anything.  This idea originally came from Miss Britt and I thought it was such a fabulous one, I thought I would do this too.

Comment away! I am excited to see what comes of this project!

52nd City.

Sunday, October 19th, 2008

I came upon a great independent publication edited and published here in St. Louis, called 52nd City. It includes photography, poetry, and short stories and the images and writing are outstanding. I own two issues, one titled Foreign Exchange, entirely centered on travel and one titled Sexy, entirely centered on sexuality.

I look forward to purchasing other issues in the future at the incredible printing press Firecracker Press (the printer of 52nd City and a great independent printer located at 2838 Cherokee Street in my old neighborhood). For those outside of St. Louis who would like to read this great publication, you can purchase issues or subscribe here.  Perhaps one day I will even submit work to this awesome publication!

One Word.

Sometimes a sentence says all there is to say.

“I believe the term “blog” means more than an online journal. I believe a blog is a conversation. People go to blogs to read AND write, not just consume.” (Michael Arrington)

Definitely check out 6 Sentences if you have not already done so. I encourage you to submit your own piece(s) too. I have submitted a few pieces and it’s quite the rush when you’ve been accepted!

Good writing that deserves props.

No matter what you think about the media’s obsession of Heath Ledger posthumously, go and read this eulogy written by the Rolling Stone magazine about Heath Ledger. The writing is exquisite, articulate, and absolutely fantastic. The language the author uses is just beautiful.
