Out of the woodwork they come…

A month or so back I deleted my Myspace profile.  I decided I would try Facebook sometime later.  Since I joined Facebook, my past has climbed out of the woodwork.  People from high school and college have sent me add requests.  I thought that I had left the horror of high school and the conservatism of college behind, but evidently the past is always out there.  Though I thought it would be painful for the past to come to the forefront, I have found it to be cathartic and illuminating.

I have taken the opportunity to thank one boy from high school for his acceptance and kindness.  He and I discussed how life is “the great equalizer.”  We also discussed how life teaches us with time what really matters.  I appreciated the chance to speak to someone from my past.  I learned from him that our 15th high school reunion is this next August too, so now I have some money to save to get there.  I am actually looking forward to seeing people now!

At first when I noticed that so many with whom I graduated college were married and had children I felt as if my own life was inadequate compared to theirs; but then I reconsidered.  I was married, could be married now, and could have babies now too; however, I made the choice toward happiness and health and so am not married and do not have babies at this point.  I have had a life of incredible experiences and have met amazing people because of my choice. I am not living an inadequate life; I am living a life of passion surrounded by amazing friends.

Oh and I am evidently not the only person I know who lived an awkward adolescence.  It seems to be the topic of Twitter and amongst my friends as well.

I had a lot of people add me as friends on Facebook, with some of them good and long time people that I grew up with and others from my blogging circle. So far, I really like Facebook.

Myspace became this giant train wreck for me and I always hated checking it.
